Game 1 Recap - Texans Blank Jets, 28-6

Here we went... the first game of the season with the PZ Fantasy Football Madden Franchise!! Ok, so that's a long ass name... but I chose to go with the Texans as our team... and of course, I did a fantasy draft because, well, this site is about FANTASY football after all! Since keeping a whole play by play of every game would be a ton of work, I'm gonna use the KISS method and just go over the "important" plays... such as scores, big defensive stops/plays, big offensive plays and so on and so forth.

I like to pound the rock, which you obviously could see if you checked out the draft results already. I start it off right with a nice 3 minute drive down the field. A little pitch from Freeman to Adrian Peterson on our first drive would prove to be our first points as AP takes the pitch to the house with an 18 yard score. Texans 7, Jets 0.

The defense continues to show its stinginess as 2nd year OLB Keith Rivers rushes in for the first sack of the game. This would prove to be the start of a very nice day for him. Unfortunately this wasn't enough to completely stop their drive... they brought in the big boot, Sebastian Janikowski, who puts a 58 yarder through the uprights. Texans 7, Jets 3.

I go 3 and out and the Jets put together a semi-good drive which is stalled just out of Field Goal range. They decide to go for the FG anyways, and the boot misses it. I got the ball back with a little over a minute left in the half... drove it down field again, this time via the arm of Josh Freeman, and bam AP runs in his 2nd TD of the game with a nice little 1 yard dive to end the half. Texans 14, Jets 3

I always choose to kick at the beginning of the game because I love to get the ball starting in the 2nd half. Naturally, I returned a pretty decent kick and once again drove the ball down field. I'm at the Jets 16 yard line and I'm checking the routes... ooohhh a nice little fade route to Avery in the corner of the endzone looks like a sweet shot. I snap the ball, drop back, wait a second or 2, then float the ball to the far corner of the endzone to Avery who makes the catch!!!... NOT! The perfect pass is in his hands, but the safety really crushes him in the air and he drops the ball. Avery is hurt.. the verdict.. Out for 4 weeks with a Torn Shoulder Labram... ouch.. that's now the 3rd or 4th injury to my team between preseason and the first game. Not a very good conditioning program in Houston apparently lol.

I'm still at the 16... 2nd down and 10 now... let's go with another pass. I choose a play which has the RB and the FB breaking out to the flats... this should provide a nice drop down if I can't find anyone open in the endzone. Of course, no one is open in the endzone... the coverage is thick, so I toss it to the backup FB, Tony Fiammetta, who catches it on the 5 yard line and powers his way into the endzone! What a play! Texans 21, Jets 3.

The game is going by rather fast with all the running I'm doing.. we're now in the 4th quarter. Perfect time for LB Keith Rivers to record his 2nd sack of the game!! Now I'm pumped... I rarely record multiple sacks in a game with 1 player. Again though, the boot comes in and gets the job done for the Jets with a 52 yard rope through the uprights. Texans 21, Jets 6.

Now I get another decent kick return... but the offense isn't getting anywhere on 1st and 2nd down. I figure we'll put the ball in the hands of our best playmaker on 3rd and 10... Adrian Peterson. Well, that proved to be a smart choice as the defense lines up in a pass defense and AP takes it to the left sideline for a 14 yard gain... first down!! This sparks another sweet drive and once again I find myself inside the opponents 20 yard line with a first down. I choose a play where Josh Freeman has to roll right, something I like to do with these quicker QB's because they're pretty good at throwing on the run. I snap the ball, roll out right... I'm seeing nothing open. I begin to look for some space to run when all of a sudden I see a guy break open in the endzone coming from the left to the right. I whip the ball into 3rd string TE Cornelius Ingram who manages to get both feet down and score the 4th and final TD of the game!! A beautiful play by the rookie TE... he might just earn himself a move up to the 2nd spot at TE. I am a Florida Gators fan after all!! Texans 28, Jets 6.

The game is dying down now and Keith Rivers is still on fire!! He comes in on the outside linebacker blitz and picks up his 3rd sack of the game!! What an impressive performance!! I get in FG range then, like a bonehead, I run backwards with the QB and no one open... sacked!! Now I'm back for like a 51 yard attempt... of course, I have the noodle legged Gramatica at Kicker and he misses it...
